Highway 401 Reopens Following Serious Head-On Collision

Impaired Driver Arrested, One Victim with Serious Injuries

Milton, Ontario - Highway 401 in Milton reopened after a serious head-on collision on Thursday evening, August 14, 2023. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that the single-vehicle crash occurred on Highway 401 near Guelph Line.

According to police, a suspect impaired driver was traveling in the eastbound lanes when they crossed the median into oncoming traffic. The suspect's vehicle collided head-on with a westbound vehicle, resulting in serious injuries to the driver. The suspect driver was arrested and is facing charges related to impaired driving.

Road Closure and Traffic Impacts

The westbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed for several hours following the crash. Traffic was diverted off the highway at various exits, causing significant delays for motorists. The OPP reopened the lanes shortly before midnight, and traffic has since resumed.

The crash remains under investigation by the OPP. Motorists are reminded to drive responsibly and obey all traffic laws, especially when driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
